Claire began swimming when she was only 6 years old. By the time she was 10, she had set a goal for herself to go to the Olympics.
Thirteen years later, after a successful career as a swimmer at WKU, Claire achieved her goal and became the first WKU student-athlete to claim a gold medal at the Summer Olympics.
"When you're on your block, you're just thinking about your race. But afterwards, you calm down a little bit and you're thinking, 'I am getting to represent my country! I am getting to represent WKU!'" says Claire. "I always make sure I've got my cap, I've got my goggles, and I've got my Red Towel."
Though Claire graduated from WKU in 2011 with a degree in Social Work, she continues to train with coaches at WKU, setting her sights set on the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Achieving goals. Finding your passion. Just a few more ways WKU is becoming A Leading American University with International Reach.
